Adventure Aquarium

This past weekend, my family and I ventured to up to Adventure Aquarium. This aquarium is home to a variety of fish, frogs, and other animals. I love aquariums and zoos, and learning about different types of animals. I decided to bring my camera along and see if I could snap some decent fishy photos!

Be prepared for a large, photo-heavy post behind the cut!

African Black-Footed Penguin

Of course, I was most excited to see the penguin exhibit, as they are my favorite animal. These guys were teeny-tiny (about foot tall) and mostly hung out by the back door, probably waiting for a snack! I especially loved the way they walked - it was  cute, funny waddle.

Poison Dart Frog

The aquarium currently has a frog exhibit running until the end of April. They had everything from toads to bullfrogs, to these colorful little frogs. I loved the bright, vibrant colors of the Poison Dart Frogs but they were quite difficult to shoot. They don't hold still for very long!

Cuttlefish

Volitan Lionfish

As expected, there was quite the variety of fish. These two, while rather odd looking, I thought photographed really nicely. The lionfish were especially fun to photograph, since they didn't dart around the tank like other fish and their fins (although highly poisonous) looked very soft and floaty.

 Blue Tang

Common Clownfish

Of course I couldn't leave without snapping some shots of bright, tropical fish. I apologize, I couldn't remember the names of 2 of them listed above. I didn't get quite as many tropical fish shots, as these guys tended to move around a lot more and a lot quicker than some of the other fish.

I think the corals and underwater plant-life can sometimes be overlooked but the way it moves and catches the light is stunning! I especially like how the colored lights of the tank add a softening effect to the photos.

Sea Nettle Jellyfish

Hands down, my favorite animal to photograph at the aquarium were the jellyfish. They were slow moving enough that they were easy to capture. They look almost ethereal, the way they float and move around in the tank.

Nile Hippos

Last but not least, are the hippos. The neat thing about this exhibit was you could see them both above and under the water.

I had a fantastic time and a wonderful day with my family. These are just a small taste of all the photos I took that day. I can't wait for next aquarium adventure!
