Macarons & Game Night

Outfit of the Day - Cardigan: Gap Outlet, T-shirt: J. Crew, Necklace: Kate Spade, Jeans: American Eagle, Shoes: Target
I had the entire day off this past Wednesday, so Emma and I decided to try and squeeze in at least one more 'hang out' day, since she will be moving in 2 weeks. We made mint chocolate macarons, played with the puppies, went to dinner, and then went to game night at the local comic shop.

I had never made macarons before but I have always seen pretty photos of them on instagram and pinterest. I was excited to try them! I sort of expected them to simply taste like a regular cookie but with filling.

We used this recipe, if anyone is interested. We tried adding some food coloring to give them that minty, green appearance, but we ended up not adding enough. Only the insides were really green.

The whole process was a lot more complicated than your average cookie, although it was fun to make something different. The texture wasn't what I was expecting at all. They were super light and airy.

After baking the shells, we used this tasty chocolate ganache, that Emma made the night before, for the filling of the macarons. We sampled a few and then packed the rest up to take to game night later on. In between then, I played around with my camera for a bit and snapped some pictures of the dogs.

They kept wanting to go in and out of the house. It was quite warm in the sun and I think they would have been content to just sit out in the snow. I nearly had forgotten how much they like getting their pictures taken!

We stopped to get a bite to eat right before game night and enjoyed a short bit of chit chatting while chowing down on some tasty food. I certainly am going to miss these simple chill days and catching up for what feels like hours on end over dinner.

We ended the night by having a game night with some other friends. We played zombie flux, an undead take on the original fluxx card game. I think everyone had a good time, and got really competitive and into the game. It was nice just to get out and have some fun in the midst of a busy week.
