Do you ever find yourself lusting after a certain nail polish, only to realize that you have an almost exact dupe? I do it all the time. I go and look at polishes and gravitate towards the same colors and shades that I already own.
I have always loved Essie's 'Chinchilly' nail polish. I think it just looks super sleek, sophisticated, and is just a great all-around color for fall. While cleaning out my polish this past weekend, I came across this one which I think looks quite similar to 'Chinchilly'. I have had this polish for forever (it was one of the first I bought) and I forgot how much I loved it.
'Metro Chic' is a sort of purpley-gray-brown color, which doesn't sound or look too appealing. However, when put on the nails, I think it looks super chic and sophisticated.
Unfortunately, I believe that Sephora is discontinuing the O.P.I. for Sephora line. I know that 'Metro Chic' is no longer available. Some similar shades are Essie's 'Chinchilly' (which is slightly more gray), Essie's 'Merino Cool', or OPI'S 'Berlin There Done That' (more taupe).
I decided to experiment a bit and try a semi-matte nail. I used this tutorial to make the nail polish matte. I painted my nails with one coat of regular polish and then I poured about a dime sized amount of nail polish onto an old magazine. I mixed in just a pinch of corn starch and worked on one nail at a time. The corn starch dries out the polish quickly so you have to work fast. Wait about 10 minutes after painting your nails for the full effect to set in.
I've included two photos to compare the finishes. My nails didn't turn out quite as matte as I hoped, so next time I might try doing 2 coats of the corn starch + nail polish mixture rather than one of each.
