Kids Craft: Scratch and Sniff Art

This was another quick and simple craft that kids of any age can do. We had to do some form of scratch-n-sniff art. I did a little research and found you can make scratch-n-sniff paint by using Kool-Aide!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Kool-Aide (you can use whatever flavors/colors you would like)
  • Water
  • Paint
  • Fruit cut outs (these will be based on the scents you have)
Take the Kool-Aide and mix it with a little bit of water. Add coordinating color paint to thicken it up. If you would like a more water-color effect, leave the paint out. Then all you have to do is let the kids paint the fruit that matches their scent/flavor! If you have older kids, they could even paint the pictures themselves. This craft is pretty open; you can do what you like with it.

These are the fruits and flavors I used:

Oranges

Pink lemonade and regular lemonade

Strawberry-Kiwi

Strawberry

Blueberry

Since some of the piece would be kind of small and my kids were on the younger side, I let them simply paint on paper and then traced the fruit where they painted. I then created this cute picnic scene to showcase their work. Just a word of caution: THE KOOL-AIDE DOES STAIN EASILY. It will take a few washes to get it off the skin and surfaces. I recommend using smocks and tablecloths to prevent stains.
