I picked up this hair treatment over the weekend while in Lush. I've tried a few body products and a few face products from Lush, and wanted to give something for my a hair a try. I just tried it out and I have put together a little before-and-after product review!
When I went into the store, I knew I wanted to try a hair mask of some sort. After describing my hair-type, the sales woman recommended The Roots Hair Treatment. She said that it worked well for someone with fine hair, and that it also works well for dry scalps. I have both, so it sounded perfect! According to Lush's website, it does just what the sales associate said:
HEALTHY HAIR STARTS WITH ROOTS
Fine, thin hair? Don't despair! We've got a hair and scalp treatment just for you. You'll feel the tingling and cooling sensations of fresh mint infusion and minty oils (peppermint and spearmint) as they go to work revitalizing the scalp, because healthy hair starts at the roots! Extra virgin olive oil and honey soften and condition hair to make it shine without weighing it down. Give dull, fine and thin hair volume and shine by treating it with Roots.
Not much to say about the packaging of the product, as it is Lush's standard black container. I like but don't LOVE the smell of this. It smells minty with a hint of citrus (which is not a preferred scent of mine), but I can deal with the smell, as it is not overbearing.
Roots is $19.95. The amount of treatments you get out of this depends on the length of your hair. For short hair you need to use about 1/4 of the pot and about 1/2 for longer hair (I ended up using about 1/4). So essentially, you are paying about $10.00 per treatment.
I followed the directions on the package, which instruct you to apply the mask to your scalp and roots and work through the ends of your hair. After working the product through your hair, massage your scalp for 15-20 minutes, then shampoo out and lightly condition if needed.
I found it difficult to work the product into dry hair. It made my hair feel greasy and heavy, which I did not like. I read some reviews on Lush's website, and a few of them suggested wetting your hair before applying the mask, which I think I will try next time.
You also gets this amazing cooling and tingling sensation as you massage the product into your scalp. This would definitely be nice on a hot day.
After about 20 minutes I washed it out using my everyday shampoo and found no need to use conditioner afterwards. My hair was soft enough that I felt like I didn't need it. Then, I dried my hair as usually, and I immediately noticed a difference.
As you can see below, my hair definitely had some volume added to it. It was much fuller and thicker than normal (even when I normally blow dry my hair it does not get that full). My hair also felt smooth, without feeling like it was being weighed down, and it was nice and soft and shiny. My favorite part though, was that my scalp and hair felt SO clean. My scalp felt refreshed and my hair felt light. It was like a peppermint for your head!
Before and after using 'Roots'
Overall, I would rate this product an 8/10. I knocked a few points because I wish the pot would last a little longer for the price. I also didn't like how greasy it felt when I first put it on and how difficult it was to work through dry hair, although I'm thinking applying it to wet hair will work better next time.
I am going to use such information now.
