Monthly Favorites: March 2014

This March I definitely wanted to embrace more springy, delicate things, since (hopefully) warmer weather is right around the corner!

Style
I picked up this striped pullover hoodie earlier this month because I wanted something light and casual to wear on my days off. This has become my go-to top for lazy days or days when I have to run errands. It is super comfortable, can be layered up and is light enough that it will still be nice when it gets slightly warmer. I love pairing this with jeggings and my Nikes (I'm hoping to pick up a more stylish pair of slip on shoes or sneakers for spring). My other favorite fashion item has been this Kate Spade apple necklace. I normally wear a big, chunky watch or lots of bracelets, so it's nice to have something a little more delicate and tiny.

Beauty
For beauty stuff this month, I've been reaching more for champagnes, light pinks, and nude colors. I've really been trying to streamline my routine: concealer, mascara, brows, blush and a bit of gloss. When I do want something a little extra on my eyes, I've been using this cream eyeshadow in 'Bikini-Tini', which is a soft pinky-champagne color. I put this all over this lid and it really brightens things up. I was never much of a lipgloss girl, but I've been trying to lighten things up for spring. This Urban Decay Naked Gloss in the shade 'Liar' and this Stilla Lip Glaze in 'Shortcake', have been the only lip products in my makeup bag. Both of these are nice pinkey-nude shades and are not sticky or gloopy. For nails, I have had barely-there nudes on all month long. I have been rotating between Essie 'Sand Tropez', a sandy beige color and Revlon 'Pale Cashmere', a very light pink cream color.

Random
These Polaroid Notes were a wonderful parting gift from my very best friend. I absolutely adore them and think the pictures are adorable. They will make great little notes for friends AND great props in photos. I've been browsing the Chronicle Books website, the publisher for this stationary, and they have TONS of cute stationary and journals.

It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini  was this months read for my local book club. I'll admit, I was little skeptical when I read the synopsis for the book; I thought this was going to be extremely depressing. The story revolves around Craig Gilner and his ambition to make something out of his life. He studies hard to get into one of the top schools in his area, only to realize that he can't keep up with the pressure of going to a prestigious school. He spirals into depression and ends up in a mental hospital. Despite the serious subject matter, I found this story somewhat humorous (as intended) and inspiring. I like that this shows the path that we expect to take does not always lead to happiness. I think anyone can find some way to relate to what Craig goes through in the story.
